«Wir sind halt ein Luxusprodukt»
Einst war er Hardrocker. Mit der Klassik-Pop-«Boygroup» Il Divo wurde er zum Star. Ein Gespräch mit dem Tenor Urs Bühler (35).

Sie sind nur noch selten in der Schweiz. Und wenn, dann beruflich. Gibt es Orte oder Menschen, welche Ihnen fehlen?
Urs
Bühler: Ja, sicher. Als ich noch in Willisau wohnte und intensiv
Motorrad gefahren bin, hatte ich Kollegen, mit denen ich teils auch
Touren ins Ausland gemacht habe. Das sind Leute, die ich vermisse. Und
dann auch die Leute aus der Luzerner Musikszene, als ich noch in einer
Hardrockband sang. Oder die Freunde, die ich hatte, als ich in Luzern
studiert habe.
Il Divo treten am 16.Dezember bei der
Sports Awards Gala in Bern auf. Welche Schweizer Sportler begeistern
Sie persönlich besonders?
Früher waren es vor allem die
Skifahrer: Bernhard Russi, Pirmin Zurbriggen, aber das ist schon lange,
lange her! Wir haben immer am Mittag mit der ganzen Familie die
Skirennen geschaut. Und wir waren stolz, dass wir Schweizer immer
gewonnen haben. Heute verfolge ich den Sport nicht mehr gross. Aber
Roger Federer finde ich toll. Es ist faszinierend, wenn du mit
Tennisfans auf der ganzen Welt über ihn reden kannst.
Mit
eurer zweiten Platte habt ihr den Erfolg des Debütalbums bestätigt,
teils noch übertroffen. Hat dies Ihr Leben nochmals verändert?
Als
alles neu war und das Debütalbum erst nach und nach in den
verschiedenen Ländern herauskam, war dies ein grosses Abenteuer. Wir
konnten uns noch Zeit nehmen, in die einzelnen Länder zu reisen und uns
vorzustellen, TV-Shows zu machen und Interviews zu geben. Seit dem
letzten Jahr ist es einfach harte Arbeit, weil die Alben überall
gleichzeitig herauskommen. Wir haben gar nicht mehr Zeit, rund um die
ganze Welt zu jetten, um unsere Promo-Arbeit zu machen. Nun ist die
Hektik konstant!
Kommen Sie überhaupt noch dazu, diesen Erfolg zu geniessen?
Das
Einzige, was ich geniesse, ist, finanziell besser dazustehen als
vorher. Wenn ich beispielsweise Lust habe, in einem guten Restaurant zu
essen, kann ich es tun, ohne auf den Preis achten zu müssen.
Aber wenn Sie mit Il Divo unterwegs sind, wird Ihnen alles bezahlt, oder?
Nein,
ich brauche schon auch eigenes Geld. Wenn wir in 4- und 5-Sterne-Hotels
übernachten und ich dort frühstücke, dann kostet das halt viel mehr als
anderswo. Und das bezahlen wir selber. Aber das gehört eben dazu. Wir
sind halt ein luxuriöses Produkt. Vor allem das Jahr, in dem wir auf
Tournee waren, war nicht billig. Die Bühnendekoration und die Musiker
bezahlen wir aus der eigenen Tasche.
Wie ist eigentlich das Verhältnis der «Diven» untereinander?
Wir
sind keine Freunde im eigentlichen Sinne. Was unser Privatleben
betrifft, geht jeder seine eigenen Wege, aber das hat keinen negativen
Einfluss auf den Beruf. Im Gegenteil. Doch wir sind schon verschiedene
Charaktere.
Ihr seid dieses Jahr bei der Fussball-WM aufgetreten. Haben Sie mit der Schweizer Mannschaft mitgefiebert?
Oh
ja, und ich war riesig enttäuscht, als wir gegen die Ukraine verloren.
Als es zum Penaltyschiessen kam, hatte ich wirklich das Gefühl: Jetzt
haben wir sie! Ich bin sonst kein grosser Fussballfan, aber die WM ist
schon immer etwas anderes. Durch unsere Auftritte hatte ich auch die
Möglichkeit, das Eröffnungsspiel und das Finale live zu sehen. Diese
Dynamik, wenn du dort mit 80000 Leuten sitzt und es ein Tor gibt oder
ein Foul! Das ganze Publikum reagiert. Ein Riesenerlebnis!

First he was a hardrocker. With classical pop «Boy band» Il Divo he became a star. A chat with tenor Urs Bühler (35)
You are hardly ever in Switzerland anymore. And when you are, it’s only for your job. Are there places or people you miss?
Yes, there are. When I still lived in Willisau and did a lot of motor
biking, I had colleagues with whom I also toured in other countries.
Those are people I miss. And then there are the people from the music
scene in Lucerne, from when I was a hard rock singer. Or the friends I
had when I was studying in Lucerne.
Il Divo will be performing on December 16th at the Sports Awards Gala in Bern. Which Swiss Athlete inspires you especially?
In the past it used to mainly be the skiers: Bernhard Russi, Pirmin
Zurbriggen, but that is a long, long time ago! In the afternoon, we
always watched the ski races with the whole family. And we were proud
that the Swiss always won. Nowadays I don’t really follow sport
anymore. But I do like Roger Federer.
It’s fascinating how you can talk about him with tennis fans from all over the world.
With your second album you confirmed the
success achieved by the first one, and even outdone it. Did that,
again, change your life?
As everything was new and our debut album was released country after
country, it all was one big adventure. We were able to take the time to
travel to the different countries and introduce ourselves, to do tv
shows and interviews. Since last year it has simply become hard work,
since the albums are released at the same time in all the countries. We
don’t have time anymore to fly around the world and do our promotion.
Life has become hectic 24/7.
Do you have time at all to enjoy all this success?
The only thing I enjoy is being in a better financial position as I
was before. When I feel like going out to eat in a good restaurant, I
can do that now, without having to worry about the cost.
But when you are traveling with Il Divo, everything is being paid for you, isn’t it?
No, I still need my own money then. When we are sleeping in 4 and 5
star hotels and I have breakfast there, then it costs more than
someplace else. And we pay for that ourselves. But that is part of the
deal. We are a luxury article. Especially the year in which we were on
tour was not cheap. The Stage decoration and the musicians are paid out
of our own pocket.
How are the relationships amongst the ‘Divi’?
We’re not friends in the true sense of the word. In our private
lives we all go our own way, but it doesn’t have a negative influence
on our professional life. On the opposite. But we have very different
personalities.
You performed at the World Cup Football this year. Did you celebrate with the Swiss team?
oh yes, and I was very disappointed when we lost against Ukraine. As it
came to the penalty shoot out, I really felt: Now we’ve got them! I’m
usually not a big football fan, but the World Cup is something
different. And because of our performance I also was able to watch the
opening game and the final live. This dynamic, when you are sitting
there with 80.000 people and there is a goal, or a foul! The whole
audience responds. An amazing experience.
